✨✨✨ Having trouble sleeping. Looking through the pictures I have. Maybe I should change my wallpaper. I have one of you sleeping. It's pretty cute.♥(ノ´∀`)
[ Jim blinks up, a little stunned, before he dives for Zell's pocket without any warning. He comes up with the second ring, running his thumb over it to get a feel for which key Zell had used without looking. ]
[ Jim's eyes burst half an hour ago. He can still feel the phantom sensation of it, around the gaping pits where they once where.
He can feel something dripping down his cheeks, still, and knows if it were blood he would be dead right now. He doesn't want to think about what it could be instead.
The message he plays over and over again, even when it hurts his ears, even when he feels almost too sluggish to hit play.
He wants to respond, but he doesn't want to be seen and doesn't trust himself to speak. ]
[ There's nothing visible on the tablet screen, except the occasional glimmer of something that might be an entire galaxy, far away.
For a long while there's no sound, either, but finally there's a shifting. Something groans like old metal forced into motion, and between it there are words. ]
[ Seeing the name on the screen, he could feel his heart rising in his chest. The video itself dashed the feelings fairly quickly. The galaxy reminds him of the anamoly of Jim's dad. Missing. Empty. Gone.
Then the words. The words make him feel wretched.
Swallowing back the wave of emotions that are threatening to claw their way out, as he shakily responds. ]
Jim?! No one left you. You aren't alone! Tell me where you are... I'll come find you! [ His voice cracks with desperation. He hopes Jim actually tells him. Actually gives him a clue or something. Anything.
[ It sounds, for a moment, like Jim. The tablet shifts back and the light catches his terrible face - Jim's face, with no eyes, just stars where they ought to be.
He corrects it as fast as he can and the part of him that's still human hopes it hadn't been enough for Zell to see. ]
alone - Don't follow me - alone, alone, quiet - I don't want to hurt you -!
[ It's strange. A little too strange when he looks up from where he'd been searching among the building and it just seems a lot quieter than normal. Usually, he'd at least be hearing Zell and Jim chattering about and at first he'd thought maybe they'd gone a bit deeper into the building or had wanted some space together.
But that thought dies when he finds out he's not with Zell either. And he soon finds himself standing out on one of the skywalks with this uneasy feeling crawling in his gut as he pulls out his tablet. He'd been acting a little strange earlier, but maybe Zack's overthinking this.
Maybe... except when he pulls off a glove to stuff in his pocket briefly to make typing easier, his eyes fixate on the odd, almost sharper looking edge there seems to be to his nails. It's enough for him to decide to shoot a voice message. ]
Jim, where are you? I know this place is pretty big, but...
[ Jim is restless. He doesn't want to leave his hiding place - too much risk of being caught - so he paces between rooms and desk, knocking into things and knocking them over as he goes.
The sound of an incoming message hurts his ears and he wants to curl back, but he's never been so relieved to hear that voice. ]
Seifer?
you know those cheesy lines about seeing stars in their eyes
The anomaly from before, but he's... [ He stops as he looks at the different pieces all stitched together. His stomach drops as he matches them to people he knows. His voice drops with his mood. ] He's different, Jim.
[ Thanks to the skywalks, Jim's already put a good bit of distance between him and Zack. He hopes, anyway; if the others are coming his way, there's only so much he's going to be able to do to hide in this state.
This eyes are blacked out more often than not, now, and he's avoiding rubble somehow but he doesn't know how much longer he can keep that up. ]
[ He's quick to pull out his tablet again the moment he hears his tablet go off. Quick to open it and frowns at it. He can feel his heart starting to pound, but he tries to settle it. Still doesn't erase some of the distress that comes through his voice though. It's impossible- he left.
Why? ]
What do you mean "You had to go"? What's going on?
[ 'Where are you?' The question's unsaid but it hangs there all the same in his tone. ]
[ It's still Jim, apparently, and the echoing has died down for the moment. It's only his harsh breathing - in the same cadence as they've practiced again and again, if Zell listens for it - that remains. ]
I could. Please - if you trust me -
[ Jim cuts off with a strangled noise and drops the tablet, leaving Zell with only sounds of scuffling. ]
[ He does catches the breathing and he wants to point out that Jim is still himself. He's still trying to be in control. It's the please that kicks all the fight out of him. He can't say no to Jim saying please.
Making a low, agonized sound in return, and he's ready to say something. Anything, but then the sounds on the other end of the tablet make him forget everything. Something was wrong. ]
Jim? Jim?! What's wrong? [ A million things run through his mind as to what is happening. Maybe someone found Jim and decided to dispatch him? Maybe there are monsters there? ] Jim!!! [ He's on the verge of freaking out. ]
