[ Yep, Jim's mocking himself a little, and teasing Zell. ]

Just about any kind of creature you could imagine. What kind would you like to see?

I believe it. [ Untangling their fingers to reach up and poke one of Jim's arms. ] You've got the guns for it, man.

[ Grinning as he lays his hand flat on his stomach now. ]

Something that you can only find in space.

If not, there's always the canons.

[ Jim flexes his arms anyway. What flexible sticks. ]

The orcas galactucus was pretty cool. You know, as long as you don't get too close.

[ ~~Swoon.~~

Orcas? As in whales? [ Does. Does he have whales in space? ]

What happens in you get close?

Space whales.

[ Even Jim's pretty amazed by those; he knew they existed, sure, but seeing them in person? Totally different. ]

Space whales with blowholes.

Whoa! That's amazing! Are there space dolphins, too? What about crabs?

[ Not counting psycho lobster of course. ]

Are they huge? Did you get pretty close?

Didn't really run into any, but they're out there. Had to scrape a ton of barnacles off the bottom of the ship, though.

[ Space barnacles. Figure that one out, Zell. ]

The whales came right up to the side of the ship. I was up in the rigging, but Doctor Doppler got a face-full of gunk.

Do you tether yourself to the ship to clean them off?

[ That sounds amazing and a little terrifying. Since SPACE. Walking his fingers up Jim's stomach to rest it against his chest. ]

Face-full of gunk, huh? [ What...gunk do they push out if they aren't in the water? Space dust?

Rolling over and scooting up to rest his chin on Jim's belly. Looking up at him. ] Bet it was amazing out there. Even with the the danger of space gunk.

[ Jim makes a motion with his hand like something exploding in Zell's face. Face full of gunk! ]

Nah, no tether. Just sent a board over the edge on two ropes and a pulley.

[ TOTALLY SAFE. ]

View would've been great but I wasn't paying attention.

[ Does Jim need a reminder of how badass he actually is? Cause Zell is making a noise ]

Whoa! Just that? Weren't you afraid of falling off?

[ It doesn't seem sturdy and he already heard about what happened with old psycho lobster. Rubbing his face against Jim's stomach. This is actually softer than he thought it would be! ]

Maybe we should try it. Sneak on down to check out the view.

[ Just making a list of things they should see and do. ]

What was the best time you had on the ship?

Silver would've caught me. Probably.

[ Jim doesn't sound terribly concerned about that, though he's picked up on how impressed Zell is.

-The face on his stomach derails his train of thought entirely and it takes him a little too long to stutter out a response. ]

[ Jim stops and clears his throat. ]

We can take a skiff. Get further out that way, and faster.

That was one of the best times. Chasing a comet. The others... he used to tell these crazy stories, you know?

Probably? [ Just going to look skeptical for a moment. Though now Jim sounds different for some reason? He's stuttering.

Looking up at Jim from his new pillow with a raise brow.

Where ever his boyfriend's brain is, the expression on his face is pretty cute. ]

Wait. You chased a comet? Out in space on a skiff? [ Why does Jim not think of himself as amazing? ]

Sounds like you two got pretty close on the trip there. [ Which falls into weirdo grey area category again. He remembers when they talked about him after everyone had a tailor made monster after them. ]

[ Jim's still blinking down at him looking flushed when Zell looks up, but he does sound a little more normal. ]

Yeah. I guess you can't do that kind of thing in your world, huh?

[ What with the whole... can't breathe in space thing. Seriously, everyone else got a raw deal on that. ]

Me and Silver happened to catch one when we were out in the skiff. He let me drive.

I'd never really been that close to anyone outside my mom. Do you have someone like that?

[ He relaxes as Jim's voice turns more normal. ]

Nothing that you can chase.

[ He has magic that lets him summon space rocks to fall on an enemy, but he's too busy trying to imagine how it must be.

Jim's question has him thinking again. ]

Do bosses count? I worked part time for a mechanic down the street. Didn't really get that close to any other adult. A lot of them stick their nose in your business to make sure you're behaving, but that's it.

[ Thinking about it. ]

How far can you get on a skiff?

Heh. You're not wrong about that. Even Silver... man, for a pirate, he was a hardass, you know? Guess it was part keeping me busy.

He did let us take the skiff pretty far out. You could go as far as the wind would take you, but you don't want to get too far from the ship or you'd be left behind.

[ Jim takes Zell's hands and feels over them again, the calluses on the inside rather than the outside this time. ]

What did you do for the mechanic?

I helped out with engine maintenance and did errands for them.

[ Getting parts from down the street or helping lift things. Nothing exciting. ]

So, what happened next? You guys made it to the treasure room.

[ He hasn't forgotten where they left off at. ]

Here I was hoping you got distracted.

[ Jim reaches out to wrap his hand around Zell's wrist, squeezing just a little. ]

They forgot all about me in the rush. They also forgot to check for tripwires. By the time anyone realized, it was already too late. The planet was melting.

It'll take a lot more than that to distract me.

[ Like maybe Jim's face being low on Zell...much like Zell's is right now. Not that it's intentional as he rubs his face against Jim's shirt to help stifle a yawn. ]

Man, you would think pirates would know about traps or something.

[ Must have been some loot. ]

What did you do next?

[ Jim's not even sure why that inspires the feelings it does. He makes a noise low in his throat and shakes his head. ]

There was a skiff in t he hoard, I guess one of Flint's that he used to come in and out. I hotwired it, but by the time it was working Silver'd caught up to us.I got thrown off the boat, he didn't. That was when I thought I was gonna die.

[ Too early to explore that just yet.

There's a lot to be impressed by. That Jim managed to avoid death once again. He thought to hotwired a ship to get out of there. ]

Thought you were going to die? Was it high off the ground? Or was everything melting already?

Everything was melting and the ground was kind of... coming apart. [ He sketches it with his hands, the way the pieces of the planet's core had drifted from one another. ] There was plasma down below. I slid off one and was just hanging onto the side. Would've fallen in, but I guess Silver had a change of heart.

Whoa! What. What's the count on the times of you almost biting it?

[ Nuzzling against his stomach and then pressing a kiss against the fabric there. ]

Man, it's making me realize more and more just how lucky I am. [ He could have lost him, lost this without ever knowing it. ]

Oh! That's what you meant by him saving your life. [ Right? ]

Heh. Three or four? Story's not over yet.

[ Jim hadn't really had the time to think about that, not when most of them happened so close together and then he'd woken up here. ]

I'm the one that's lucky. Pretty sure you've lived through a lot more than me.

[ Thankfully he doesn't think about how that implies there may be ANOTHER TIME OF ALMOST DEATH. Not yet at least. Beaming up at Jim as he moves to fold an arm under his own chin. ]

I had friends to back me up.

[ Friends that weren't cute blobs or those who shouldn't be named. ]

I'm listening, Stars. What's next?

[ Jim gives Zell a slightly sardonic look, but well. He wasn't wrong about the friends. ]

After that we managed to get back on the ship, but there was a problem: we couldn't move fast enough to clear the explosion in time. I had an idea, though - the door that lead to the treasure could be reprogrammed, take us all over the galaxy. We just had to change it in time.
