To keep him away from everyone else in the Empire, so they won't know it's going to fall and overthrow it or something. The weird part is how they write about space...
[ Jim still doesn't understand how that's even possible, but whatever. ]
Once you get up, past the local atmosphere, you're into something called the Etherium. It's breathable - supports life and everything. All the habitable planets in the empire are there, including Montressor - where I'm from. The ships are open, same as you'd use for sailing on water.
[ He's grinning, though, so that must not be all there was. ]
I was under the ship's cook so I spent a lot of time cleaning everything, but whenever there was free time I used to go up in the rigging and just look out at everything. You really can't describe it.
[She tugs her knees up to her chest, sighing a little wistfully.]
The stars were beautiful in Nibelheim. It was so far away from any cities that you could see all the constellations perfectly. I can't imagine how amazing it was to be up there.
[ The mention of her hometown gives him a pause - he's not sure how much it's okay to talk about, just like he's not sure how much it's okay to talk about Cloud, or Tadashi, or any of the other awful things.
She doesn't seem upset, though, so he thinks it'll be alright. ]
[Tifa actually isn't feeling awkward at all. She does have good memories of Nibelheim, and it's nice to remember them instead of what happened, sometimes.]
It's a place called Benbow on the planet Montressor. Really backwater except the spaceport - my mom ran an inn and we mostly got spacers on shore leave in. Other than that there's not a lot of humans around other than me and my mom.
I was the only human where I was taken from, too. Thought for a while that was the common factor, but then I found out there was at least one person here who isn't.

[Well, yeah, Jim is right.]
Weird.
[She feels like she's missing some vital information about the plot, here.]
Why does he need his own planet, exactly?

To keep him away from everyone else in the Empire, so they won't know it's going to fall and overthrow it or something. The weird part is how they write about space...

What's strange about it?
no subject
[ You'd think they would have put in an explanation if that were the case. ]
no subject
What? What are you talking about?
no subject
[ He makes a little sweeping motion with his hand, one that's meant to suggest sailing. ]
The part you can breathe?
no subject
I don't... know what you're talking about.
no subject
[ What's so hard to understand about breathable space? ]
no subject
[Jim please explain.]
no subject
[ Where does he even start. ]
no subject
Shinra had a space program, but the first launch failed and they abandoned it.

Really? That's amazing!
[She wishes she could just stick Jim and Cid into a room and listen to them talk.]
Have you ever been on one?
no subject
[ Anyway, moving past that. ]
It's a galleon. Huge. We got a lot of sailors coming through my mom's inn, too, whenever they were on leave.
no subject
Really? What was space like?

From the middle of nowhere, huh? Me too.
no subject
Really? What was your hometown like?

[She pauses for a second.]
Um... If there weren't a lot of humans, what kind of people were around?
no subject
[ He'd talked to Freya enough to realize that this is going to sound weird to her. ]
Couple other species scattered around, too.
no subject
[Well that's... a weird way to grow up, she thinks.]
So... Is it strange for you that there are so many humans here?
no subject
[ Finally, someone gets it! ]
I was the only human where I was taken from, too. Thought for a while that was the common factor, but then I found out there was at least one person here who isn't.

We have mostly humans on Gaia, I guess, but... there are a few intelligent species that aren't.
[It is really weird to talk about people this way for her. It feels strange and clinical.]
